A Wedding Banquet in Suzhou, China

suzhou wedding
It was a year ago that I first experienced what it was like for a Singapore wedding photographer to document a true-blue Chinese wedding banquet in China, in this case, Suzhou. Hans and Si Wei had gotten married in Singapore a week earlier and this banquet was for the bride's family and relatives and the groom's business associates in Suzhou. It was a very relaxing day compared to what we went through in Singapore. I was treated to lunch together with their entourage after completing the formality of "fetching" the bride.
The banquet was also an eye-opener for me. Even though I had been briefed beforehand, it was still a novelty to see packets of cigarettes left on the tables as wedding favours, and people huffing and puffing inside the ballroom freely. Apparently, friends or colleagues were eager to perform on stage and cultural dance performance was a wedding staple. In terms of the flow, it was not much different from banquets in Singapore. Another noticeable difference was perhaps the louder noise, the sheer volume of leftover on plates, a boy who dared to kick the bride and a drunk male guest who went into a group picture-taking rampage. :)

If possible, I'll try to share the Singapore leg of this wedding some time later.
