It’s always hard for a girl to leave her family for somewhere thousands of miles away to start another family. That was what Hyeyoung is doing now, after marrying Ernest in a bittersweet but intimate wedding in Singapore.
Hailed from South Korea, Hyeyoung has a cool exterior quite typical of many Korean girls (not that I know many….or any). Beneath that stoic first impression lies a sentimental and warm soul, which melted the heart of Ernest when they were both studying in the university. I also learned that Hyeyoung’s parents run a pear orchard back home, and the distinct possibility that the $10-a-pear gem I have caressed (and predictably didn’t buy) in some gourmet supermarket might have flown from their orchard. The highlight of the day, however, was that I got to eat one of these juicy and sweet pears in the hotel suite after Hyeyoung’s parents had carted them all the way to Singapore. Not only the fruits are air-flown, the farmers are too!
This wedding might have been conspicuous by the absence of any frills or big decor. However, throughout the day, the presence of real affection the duo have for each other looms larger than anything. It’s with compliments that I say that there’s nothing worth “pining” on Pinterest boards. True, there are stylish bouquets, flower arrangements or fancy stationery that you can showcase in a wedding to tell people who you are. But, how do you pin a memory of a lifetime, or the skip of a heart beat? These only exist in your hearts, and as much as I try to assist, lived through in photographs.
